NMAT (National Medical Admission Test) is a screening exam conducted for pre medical students who want to complete MD from Philippines. Purpose of NMAT exam is to filter the quality of students getting into master’s course in any University. Admission to top universities is given on the basis of NMAT score. According to CHED (Commission on Higher Education in Philippines), Philippines has 2299 higher educational institutions and 40 medical colleges.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR NMAT

Students who have completed their BS course or are completing their BS course are eligible to appear for NMAT exam to pursue MS course in Philippines.

PROCEDURE

Complete 12th board with an aggregate of 50% or more in PCB.

NEET must be qualified with at least minimum passing marks.

Any student who fulfills above two criteria can apply to study for BS program in Philippines.

According to US based pattern adopted by Philippines, Universities follow BS + MD course pattern, whose duration is approx. 5.8 years. This can be split as:

1.5-year BS course (pre-medical course)

3 years MD course

1 year of internship

The students fain eligibility to attend the NMAT exams after completion of BS course.

DIFFICULTY LEVEL OF EXAM

Level of exam is similar to as that of NEET. It’s easy for a student to clear NMAT who have qualified NEET. As the syllabus of NMAT is just a portion of NEET exam’s syllabus and difficulty level of questions isn’t that high.

Most of the colleges in the Philippines allows to purse MD course even if he doesn’t qualify NMAT exam but appears for it after pre medical course.

For NMAT exam minimum percentile required for passing is 40.

SYLLABUS FOR NMAT EXAM

The NMAT test consist of two Parts

First: Mental Ability Test

Second: Academic Proficiency Test

Both the parts consist of 200 marks each.

Part 1 Tests the reasoning ability with basic hypothetical questions to examine the IQ of student.

Part 2 Consist of academic part which tests the knowledge of student with medical background bearing syllabus up to class 12th. One needs not to stress on social science part as if one has a firm grip on PCB then this exam can be easily qualified.
